COULD YOU SURVIVE WITHOUT MONEY?

MEET THE GUY WHO DOES

In Utah, a modern-day caveman has lived for the better part of a decade on zero dollars a day. People used to think he was crazy

I've been visiting flea markets in the area (and i can't wait for garage sale season to start again). I've made a few mental notes on what supplies i'm looking for:

1. Hand Operated Kitchen appliances, such as an egg beater. Toaster Rack that goes on a campfire/wood fireplace. Campfire cooking rack.

2. Cast Iron cookware

3. Hand Operated tools such as the old gear driven hand drills.

I know i'm forgetting a few things, so if anybody wants to add to my list...

1. Fire Starting - I recently bought a couple of pocket magnifying glasses with plastic lenses. My thinking was that glass ones would break if dropped, hence get the plastic ones. My worry is that the lense quality isn't good enough to focus the sunlight enough to start the fire. I meant to start the grill this weekend with the magnifying glasses but forgot

2. Vaseline soaked cotton ball

3. Can you boil water on a sterno stove? Another experiment on the to-do list.

IMHO, everybody needs a 4WD, whether for the emergency bug-out or just getting to work in terrible weather.. This being said, i was in the market for said 4wd. I wasn't too sure about what i wanted exactly, but i knew it had to be an SUV, as it keeps your equipment dry and you can sleep in the back without the elements getting to you, if need be.

After much looking, i found a '97 Land Rover Discovery. My thinking was "HEY!! 4WD and Luxury too!!", and bought it. BAD IDEA! ...

I believe that there is other intelligent life in the universe. There has to be!! Judging from the amount of Democrats here, there isn't much intelligent life on EARTH!

I've seen the night sky through very good night vision. And I can tell you, for every star you DO see, there are about 300 that you DON'T see and those are only the ones whose light can make it this far that can be picked up by night vision. You can't tell me that out of ALL of those stars (most of which are suns with ...

I have a theory that we're going to be at war with China within about 10 years or so. Here's my evidence:

1. The Chinese Military Budget (Black Projects included) has DOUBLED every year for the last 7 or so years.

coupling that with a story i saw in one of the Fish Wrappers..

2. I saw a Letter to the Editor in an American Rifleman inquiring why the price of lead has gone up dramatically in the last year or two. The answer that was given was that China was buying up a lot of ...

After they've looked at it for a couple days you weed out the ones that are going to waste your time... The folks that ask questions are the ones that get it...

1. Generators: Good ones cost dearly. Diesel ones are the best. Gasoline storage can be a bit risky, Noisy... ...

I inherited a set of FoxFire books from my Grandfather. If you are not familiar with them, they were a bunch of high school newspaper interviews, written back in the 70's, of the old timers that lived in/near the Appalachian Mountains. The articles were about the old ways of doing things (read: without electricity), aka SURVIVING! In short, they are EXCELLENT and will be going in my Bug-Out Vehicle trunk.

I will try to get in touch with the publisher and get these books on my website ...

IMHO, There are 4 types of firearms needed for self defense/survival

1. Pistol - for all around defense, and to use till you can get to your rifle/shotgun

2. Shotgun - for close range defense or hunting fowl

3. short range rifle - self explanatory, or you could just go with #3 or #4

4. Long Range Rifle - When you need to reach out. Defense/Hunting

and of course, plenty of practice and field ammunition for all. Reloading equipment and stockpile would be great ...

It occurs to me that in the right situation, this forum is completely useless... Read on..

In the right situations, Cell phones, GMRS/FRS radios, etc, are completely useless because they can/will be jammed/eavesdropped by "someone" with the right equipment. The only way I can see to get around this is to use a non-RF means of communications, ie surplus sound-powered phones, visual signals, coded written communications, etc.

I'd love to hear some ideas from you guys.

Spoons have been around for hundreds of years. The first spoon was found in an ancient mayan tomb of a great leader. It is said that this great leader ruled with an iron spoon. You can use a spoon to eat, a neccessity of living. If you are a junky you can use this spoon to melt down your dope and shoot up. There are many uses for a spoon. Always ...

Firemaking with Flint and Steel

Get rid of that disposable lighter! Strike a spark and breathe it into life as was done in early times. With good materials and a bit of practice, fire making with flint and steel is quick and reliable.

When you strike a spark, you are shaving tiny pieces off the steel with the sharp edge of the flint. The pieces become incandescent from the friction. The sparks come from the steel, ...
